About 20 years ago I remember when The Sandman by Neil Gaiman was in circulation. I was a collector, a new one, of comic books. I remember having 2 #1’s of the series… I read this Sandman very seriously for a long time. Then for some odd reason I gave my entire Comic Book Collection to my brother. But I never did forget these Sandman Comics, I’ve decided to read them all over again.
This first issue is a really good beginning to the series. A Magus of a fictional ‘Secret Order’ gains a Powerful book, which he decides to use against ‘death’. I put that in parentheses, Mr. Gaiman uses death (Female!) in the series as Dreams, the Dream Kings younger brother, a fanciful invention at best! The Magus of this order traps the Dream King in a circle using the magic book. The rest of this first comic of the Sandman is about the ‘endurance’ of the Dream King as over 70 years flow by and the Magus dies as his son carries on.
If you haven’t read this first Sandman Issue you’ll be well pleased when you do. I’m sure you’ll be ‘hooked’ just like I was so very long ago.
I intend to re-read all of The Sandman comics…
First Issue #1 – January 1989 Last #75 – March 1996
The Sandman is over now and Mr. Gaiman writes many books and so forth… I’m sure that after Sandman Number 30 something or other, I’ll be able to pick up where I left off.
The Sandman #1
Gaiman’s contract stipulated that the series would end when he left it.
